Police Duty Knife (PDK) — Instructions

Product Information and Care Instructions
The PDK series of knives is the result of collaboration between law enforcement officers, ASP’s product designers and knife engineering and manufacturing experts. Their goal was to create a practical, tough and dependable knife specifically for day-in, day-out police use. A tool of excellent quality, yet one an officer can afford.

With its focus on daily utility, the PDK is designed to be easy to use and maintain, with just a few tips:

• With its “flipper” opening design, the PDK is best carried folded with the blade facing back and the tip pointing up.
• To open, hold the knife securely with the thumb on one side, the index finger on the flipper and the other fingers on the opposite side. Keeping clear of the blade, press your index finger firmly down on the flipper, toward your palm. You should feel and hear the blade lock decisively into place. If it doesn't, carefully complete the opening with your free hand gripping the cutout near the spine of the blade.
• To close, push down on the liner lock to release, then carefully fold the knife, keeping the blade under control and fingers away from the sharpened edge.
• As with all quality knives, keep your PDK clean and dry. After thoroughly drying your knife, apply a thin coat of oil to the blade and pivot point, open and close blade several times and wipe off excess. 
• With proper use of a quality stone, rod or other honing device, the AUS-8 blade sharpens easily and holds an edge well.
• The quick-release pocket clip makes it easy to switch between right- and left-handed carry, without tiny screws to deal with or lose. Simply insert the double lock pin of a handcuff key—or a similar thin tool—into the hole seen in the clip slot. Press the pin firmly, slide the clip out, and slide it into the slot on the opposite side of the grip until it clicks positively into place.
